Owatrol Polytrol - 1 Litre - Colour Restorer
Polytrol Colour Restorer – Deep Penetrating Oil for Faded Surfaces
Polytrol is a high-performance penetrating oil designed to revive and protect faded, oxidised, or weathered surfaces. It restores lost colour and depth by soaking into the material and reactivating the original pigments, bringing dull plastics, metals, gelcoats, and more back to life.
Ideal for surfaces affected by UV exposure, rain, and environmental pollution, Polytrol enhances appearance while also providing a protective barrier against further corrosion. When applied to tarnished metal, it restores a clean, polished look and helps maintain long-term durability.
This easy-to-use formula can be applied with a soft cloth or brush, making it suitable for both horizontal and vertical surfaces. It begins working quickly and is ready to wipe off in approximately 10 minutes. Once dry, it leaves a flexible, hard-wearing finish that will not crack, peel, or flake, as it does not form a surface film.
Polytrol is also available in a convenient 250ml aerosol spray, allowing for fast application and easy access to detailed or hard-to-reach areas. It is suitable for use on fibreglass (GRP) and a wide range of other materials.
Typical Applications:
- Restoring colour to faded car bumpers and exterior trims
- Reviving gelcoat finishes on boats and marine surfaces
- Enhancing the appearance of metal fixtures and fittings
- Rejuvenating weathered or chalky paintwork
- Brightening natural stone, tiles, terracotta, marble, and slate
- Refreshing the look of garage doors and exterior panels
Important Information:
Do not use on white or very light-coloured surfaces, as the product is designed to restore pigment and may not produce the desired result.
Surface Preparation
For best results, ensure all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, dry, and free from contaminants such as dirt, grease, oil, wax, polish, or silicone residues. Any existing mildew should be treated before application using a solution of equal parts bleach and water. Apply the solution, scrub the area, leave for 10–15 minutes, then rinse well and allow to dry fully.
Preparing Different Surfaces
- Plastics, Gelcoat, Tiles & Painted Surfaces:
Wash with warm soapy water or a suitable cleaner such as Net-Trol. Rinse thoroughly and allow at least 24 hours drying time before application. - Stone & Brick:
Clean using an appropriate exterior cleaner like Net-Trol, rinse well, and leave to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. - Metal Surfaces:
Remove dirt and grease using soapy water or a recommended solvent cleaner. Rinse if needed and allow the surface to dry completely for at least 24 hours.
How to Apply Polytrol Colour Restorer
General Application Guidelines
Work in manageable sections that can be completed within 10–20 minutes to maintain an even finish. If the product absorbs unevenly, redistribute excess oil from glossy areas to dull patches. Always remove surplus product with a lint-free cloth before it becomes sticky. For a higher sheen, lightly buff the surface after application.
When using the aerosol version, spray evenly across the surface, wipe away excess product, and allow it to dry.
Application by Surface Type
- Plastics, Gelcoat, Tiles & Painted Areas:
Apply generously using a soft cloth or brush. Leave for 10–20 minutes, then wipe away any excess and allow to dry fully. - Stone & Brick:
Apply evenly with a brush or cloth. After 10–20 minutes, remove any remaining product and leave the surface to cure. - Metal:
Apply using fine-grade (000) wire wool soaked in the product. Allow it to penetrate for 10–20 minutes, then wipe off excess with a clean cloth and leave to dry.
Note: This product penetrates into the surface rather than forming a coating on top, so excess material must always be removed.
Ongoing Maintenance
Reapply when surfaces begin to fade again. Always follow the same preparation and application steps to maintain consistent results.
Cleaning & Safety
Clean application tools with white spirit after use. While the liquid itself is non-flammable, used cloths or steel wool may pose a fire risk if not handled correctly. After use, soak materials in water or store them in a sealed, water-filled metal container before disposal. Alternatively, lay them flat to dry outdoors before discarding.
Important Usage Tips
- Protect surrounding areas before starting work
- Apply only in temperatures between +5°C and +35°C
- Avoid use in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces
- Always wipe away excess product to prevent surface film formation
- Not suitable for use on white or very light-coloured surfaces
